The 2011 Pacific Raceways Pawn X Change ET Racing Series awards Banquet will be at Pacific Raceways tonight. The days race event is canceled but the Banquet is rain or shine. According to pacifcreaceways.com the rain fall in the last several days has saturated the ground and water is seeping up through the track. The track crew attempted to prep the track yesterday and evaluated its ability to be raced on. Cold track temperatures and moisture on the surface rendered the track un safe for racing. The weather in the NW is out of anyone's control and this year was challenge at best with 4 of the 11 races in the series being interrupted by rain. The Awards Banquet will start at 4:30 pm today. Racers who participated in the 2011 series are free. Guests are only $15.00. Without the race today this is an opportunity to get dressed up and come out for a evening of social fun. 07/17/11 The Summer Harvest Car Show was rained out yesterday due to miserable wet conditions in the am and rain predicted for the rest of the day.
Yesterday at Bracketstars HQ it started raining at 3:30am. At 7:15am as we were about to pull out to to go the event it was an absolute downpour with nothing but rain on the radar and black skies to the West. The band has expressed concerns about playing in wet conditions and our valuable sound system and electrical equipment also would be in jeopardy.  At 8:00 am we made the call to rain out the event. This was the first time a Bracketstars Car Show had ever been rained out. Last year in the process of hosting the 22 days of car shows we had several shows in the rain and after last year decided that if it is raining withing one hour of start time we would call the show a rain out. We appreciate your support. Pre registered participants will receive a full refund in the mail via check this week.

07/16/11 Todays Summer Harvest Car Show will start with rain.
If by 10:00 am it is still raining hard with no end in sight we will have a voice recording at 206-354-3152 that states the show had been rained out. If there are just showers then the show will go on. We have done many car shows in the rain and if it is just a soaker its no fun. We are optimistic that the rain will pass. When you call if you hear info about the show features and times then the show will still at that time be on. Within the first 4 seconds of the recording it will state it has been rained out if that is the case. Thank you for your understanding.

07/07/11 The Bracketstars Summer Harvest Car Show has been moved to Pacific Raceways in Kent, WA.
The official word is the July 16th Bracketstars Summer Harvest Car Show will be at Pacific Raceways in Kent, WA. Located at 31001 144th Ave SE Kent, WA 98042. The change came about when it was found that there was till standing water in the areas at the V-2 Farm in Enumclaw where the car show was to be held. We looked long and hard at the situation and it was clear that the fields would not be able to be groomed in time for the big event. We contacted Pacific Raceways and they graciously offered to help by hosting the show at their fantastic facility. We wanted to keep the show in Enumclaw but givin the short notice there simply was not enough time to seek out a location. One might say everything happens for a reason. Pacific Raceways will have a road race occurring the same day and car show enthusiasts can take in the racing action action as well as the racers will enjoy the car show. The car show area at the raceways will accommodate a large number of show cars and it is a very clean, well organized facility.  We are very excited to have the show here and it will be an easy transition. All of the times and goings on will stay the same. Registration at 9:00am, the show starts at 11:00am, awards at 2:00pm and conclusion at 3:00 pm. We will feature the Sammy Steele Band, 21 trophy classes, 100 dash plaques, prize drawings every half hour and food and beer concessions will be open. If you would like to stay for the evenings drag race event you are welcome to. We will stay for the race and present the Bracketstars Winners Circle at the end of the evening. The drag racing action takes place from 4:30 - 10:00pm approximate. We will see you at the show!

06/26/11 Wet fields too soft to groom will force relocation of the Bracketstars Summer Harvest Car Show on July 16th.
The rain keeps falling and Bracketstars never sais quit. Granted we have had a few nice days so far this year but things are not looking good for the next week. Today we were at the V-2 Farm in Enumclaw attempting to start grooming the Farm for our biggest car show of the year The Bracketstars Summer Harvest Car Show and Swap Meet on Saturday July 16th.  Last Fridays rain storm had  left standing water in the show car areas. The mower sank 3'' in the mud and became stuck. We had been putting off starting to mow the grounds because of the nasty weather we have had in the past month. With the show only 3 weeks away we couldn't  wait any longer. It became clear that this is not going to fix itself in time for the big show on the 16th and there is now way I would want any of your show cars in anything less than a perfect setting . The 21 trophies and 100 dash plaques are here at the Bracketstars headquarters awaiting their day in the sun. The Sammy Steele Band has been booked. The beer permit has been paid for and we were set to have a great show. In the next two weeks we will be working on a new location for the show. This is our one big show in our home town of Enumclaw. We will do what ever it takes to keep the show here in our home town. When you go to a Bracketstars event you can count on a professional, safe, fun event. For this reason we will work hard to relocate the show as close as possible to the V-2 Farm and put on the best car show of the Summer. Stay tuned.

Ashley Force Hood and husband expecting first child Jan 25 2011
Ashley Force - Hood to step away from the seat of her 8,000 horsepower Top Fuel Funny Car for the 2011 season.  Ashley and husband Danny Hood planned on starting a family and the 28 year old Ashley and he are expecting the new member of the family late summer.  As she steps away from the drivers seat younger sister Courtney will begin testing in Top Fuel Funny Car. Ashley said "I am excited to help my sister Courtney as she begins testing in Fuel Funny car". "and I am very interested to see how she deals with dad! Handling 8,000 horsepower  will be the easy part."  For more info, click here.

Drag Racing History from a day and track that no longer exists.
It was the end of the first day at the Corvette and High Performance swap Meet as I walked by a box of old trophies. I couldn't help but stop and look wondering if any were old drag racing trophies. As looked down in the jumbled box I saw "Puyallup Dragway Class Winner" I had always heard stories of racing back in the 70's at the track that no longer exists. The gentelman at the booth said you can have the whole box for $25 bucks.

I pulled out the dusty old trophy that was in fairly good shape and read 1968 class winner. I asked him if his dad had won them. He said yes as he pointed his father on the other side of the booth. We had a nice talk about all the stories I had heard of Puyallup Dragway and the four wide drag racing that took place there. He said when he was only 13 years old he worked in the tower while his dad raced. He would take the time slips and fold them in half then drop them down the shoot. Thats why when the racers got there time slips they were always folded. Then he pulled out another silver and green trophy from the same track dated 1972 with a Pay N Pak logo on it as a sponsor. How cool. I caught their last name was Rice but missed the son and Dads first name. I called my good friend Frank who I know used to race there to see if he remembered them. He did and said they both had the first names Mike not to be confused with Divion 7  Director Mike Rice. He thinks they were won with a 1966 Chevrolet Nova.
I don't have the room to start a museum but I will clean these pieces of our local drag racing history up and hold onto them. For me it is a link to the past that I never got see. I hear a lot of tales of thrills and spills from Puyallup but there is not a lot of coverage on the place as there is for some of the other more well known tracks like Lyons or LA County Raceway. -
